Painting and Giclee Info What is a Giclee?
Giclee (pronounced Gee'-clay) is a French term meaning to spray or to squirt and offers one of the highest degrees of accuracy and richness of color available in any reproduction process. Many museums are known to use giclees to display works of art with the originals kept in the museum vaults. A giclee is in itself a collectible piece of art which will last for over a hundred years if properly cared for (kept behind glass and away from direct sunlight). Special light fast inks are used to print the image on acid free and archival surfaces. A giclee faithfully reflects the vibrant color, rich detail and lush texture of the original. Giclees offer the purchaser the opportunity to own genuine art, though not the original, at a reduced price. Many artists will choose to further enhance the giclee by painting directly on the giclee with additional original work. This adds to the value and beauty of the giclee. This is called an enhanced giclee and makes each giclee painting unique and one of a kind.
Unless purchasing an Original, or from the Prints on Demand Gallery, all of my paintings will be sold as an enhanced giclee.
As I paint with pastels on the giclee of my original, my giclee paintings will also be sold beautifully matted and framed. I also sell "unenhanced giclees" which will be matted with a backing board and ready for framing.
I also welcome commissions!
